SYNOPSIS:

Lyric Scott has always had a good life. Outgoing, spunky, and musically talented, she’s constantly surrounded by family and friends, yet she still feels there’s something missing.

Then she meets her new next-door neighbor Ayden Gregory. Mysterious, sweet, and sad, Ayden is the exact opposite of Lyric and exactly what she needs to fill the void in her life.

Ayden has been through more than most people and believes his life is always going to be rocky, so when he’s suddenly adopted by the Gregorys, he’s thrown for a turn. But even with a new, loving family, he still finds himself haunted by the memories of his old life. The only true breath of fresh air is when he’s with his best friend, Lyric Scott.

As Lyric and Ayden grow closer, the lines of their friendship start to blur. But when Ayden’s past unexpectedly pushes its way into his new life, their friendship and newfound attraction will be tested.

**A novel about Ella and Micha’s daughter and Lila and Ethan’s son from The Secret Series. However, this series can be read on its own.**

MY REVIEW:

Unraveling You is the story of Lyric, a high school student and the daughter of an artistic couple, and Ayden, the adopted son of Lyric’s neighbours. When Ayden is adopted by Ethan and Lila, Lyric is asked to help him adjust. Lyric is reluctant to befriend Ayden but when she does, she realises he is a broken soul, and would stop at nothing to make him whole again.

Lyric is a cheerful girl. She’s talented, friendly, and quick witted. She is the sort of person who has no particular crowd in school; she dresses like a Goth chick, plays in the school band, is friendly with the nerds, and hangs out with the jocks. Lyric is everybody’s friend. And that’s why when Ayden resists her friendly advances she becomes even more determined to win him over as a friend.

Ayden is a classic character with a past; only, he can’t remember the vital parts of that past. On meeting Lyric, he is surprised at how a person can just be happy all the time. He is not used to being on the receiving end of the love and affection he is getting from Lyric, Ethan, and Lila, so it takes a while for him to adjust. When he finds himself falling for Lyric, he is nothing less than surprised, but he still has his demons to face.

I have heard that this book is a spin-off of the Secret of Ella and Micha series, and even though I haven’t read any book in that series, I must say that this is a particularly good spin-off. It is a quick read that draws you in and keeps you turning the pages for more. I liked watching Lyric and Ayden develop their feelings for each other, and I liked watching Ayden learn to smile again (no matter how brief).

Rest assured I will be reading and reviewing more of Jessica Sorenson’s work, starting with the next book in the Unraveling You series. 🙂
