Sienna Murphy never does anything without a plan. And so far her plans have been working. Right after college, she got a prestigious job and gained the stability she’d always craved – until work takes her to the sun-drenched shores of Oahu and places her in the path of sexy surfer Luke Everett. For the first time, she lets her heart take control. Drawn to his carefree charm, she makes a spontaneous and very un-Sienna-like decision to drop everything and stay in Hawaii for two more weeks.

Luke lives fast and wild. When he meets Sienna, he’s convinced that some no-strings-attached fun is just what she needs. As their nights quickly turn from playful to passionate, Luke can’t deny the deep connection he feels. But there’s a reason Luke doesn’t do long-term. He can’t promise Sienna forever, when the enormity of his past has shown him just how fragile the future can be . . .

The Moment of Letting Go is one of the many books that I started reading with low expectations, but finished reading with a smile on my face.

Sienna is an events planner who is working hard to make possible a life of stability and financial comfort for herself. She tries as much as possible not to take risks that will make her future uncertain in any way. When she goes to Hawaii to plan a wedding, she meets Luke, who manages to persuade her to take an impromptu vacation on the island. As they grow closer, Sienna finds herself feeling carefree and relaxed: feelings she hasn’t felt in a long time.

Sienna as a main character is the kind of person that makes it easy for readers to understand her feelings. Sienna and Luke are what I like to call realistic characters. They have their own flaws and they manage to develop beautifully over time. The pacing of the story is another thing I like about this book. Reading it, one can clearly see the stages in the relationship between Sienna and Luke. There’s no rush in the romance, and things just seem to happen naturally. The fact that Sienna occasionally questions her actions and motives also makes the story more real than fairytale. I also like the fact the Luke’s secret and background are revealed slowly, with events that occur to make it easier to empathise with what he has experienced.

In all, The Moment of Letting Go is a rich story that inspires and touches the heart, leaving a warm, fuzzy feeling behind.
